Photography, Printmaker

Joan’s claim to fame, and why she thinks she’s an artist is because of her one year attending the Alberta College of Art. She gained a number of great things from that year (including getting a free trip to Libya from her dad’s company). First of all she realized that her artistic talent was based on perceptual art. Meaning if she could see it, she could interpret it. Similar to her mother’s paintings, which were often based on her photographs and how she captured the images. Conceptual artists are the ones who can come up with amazing work, from their mindseye. Another epiphany was that she loved printmaking! How she could interpret her images into different visuals based on the type of medium she was using. Her final learning was that she knew she’d never make a living as an artist, so she completed her one year of art college, and then took different evening or weekend classes, taking printmaking and photography. Apparently her favourite subjects are travel (with and without Gnomen), family and friends and cats!
